Sell your gold, jewellery and silver in Swansea and across Wales

We sell gold, jewellery, silver, silver plate, coins, medals and collectables at auction for people in South, West and Mid Wales. Send us photos. We tell you what we think it could make, or whether it is not worth the trip.

Operated by Homefront Auctions Limited, Ashford House, Abergelly Road, Fforestfach, Swansea SA5 4DY.

What you can sell with us

If it is gold, silver, a medal or a collection, send a photo. These are the things we are asked about most.

Gold jewellery, rings and chains

Rings, chains, bracelets, brooches, cufflinks, signet rings, wedding bands. Hallmarked 9ct, 18ct or 22ct, or unmarked. Broken clasps and missing stones are fine. Photograph the hallmark if you can find it.

Sovereigns and gold coins

Full and half sovereigns and other gold coins. A standard sovereign is priced close to the gold price. A rarer date or a coin in unusual condition can make more, which is why we ask for a photo of both sides.

Broken and unwanted gold

A tangle of chains, a single earring, a bent ring. We will tell you honestly whether it is worth putting in a sale. Gold is sold to bidders, so what it makes is decided on the day.

Diamond and gem-set jewellery

Diamond rings, eternity rings, sapphire, ruby and emerald pieces, pearls. Send the ring and anything that came with it: boxes, receipts, certificates.

Watches

Wristwatches and pocket watches, working or not. Gold cases, named makers, and old watches in their original boxes.

Silver and silver plate

Sterling silver tea sets, salvers, candlesticks, cutlery, napkin rings, trophies and silver jewellery. Silver plate (marked EPNS or A1) is in there too. Plate has no silver value, so it sells for what bidders will pay for the piece itself, often not much, and we will say so.

Medals, militaria and badges

Campaign and gallantry medals, groups, ribbon bars, cap badges, uniforms. A medal named to a soldier is worth more with its name. Photograph the edge, where it is engraved.

Coins and banknotes

Collections, albums and sets, British and foreign, silver and gold. Collections made on purpose tend to be worth more than the same coins loose in a tin.

Collectables and other items of value

Clocks, pictures, ceramics, glass, pens, lighters, vintage toys and watches. If you are not sure it is the kind of thing we sell, send a photo and ask.

Looking for gold buyers in Swansea or elsewhere in Wales? How selling at auction is different

Many people searching for someone to buy their gold, silver or jewellery want one thing: a fair price they can trust. We do it differently. We sell your items for you at auction, and bidders decide the price.

The two work differently, so here is how ours goes:

  • The price is whatever the bidding reaches. It can be above the metal value, close to it, or below what you hoped. We give you our estimate beforehand, and it is only an estimate.
  • You are paid after the sale, not on the day. The money comes by bank transfer within 14 days of the sale ending, provided the buyer has paid us.
  • We charge 20% of the sold price, VAT included. Nothing else. Nothing at all for anything that does not sell.
  • Pieces with a name, a maker, a date or a story do best at auction. Plain scrap gold, valued by weight, generally does not do better than its weight in metal, and the commission comes off that.

If you want to compare, do. Ask any buyer how they weigh it, what they will pay per gram, and when you are paid. Then send us photos, and we will tell you what we think.

What it costs to sell gold, jewellery and silver with us

20% of the price each item sells for. That 20% includes VAT. There are no other charges to you: nothing for photographing, cataloguing, marketing or insurance, and nothing for items that do not sell.

The buyer pays a separate premium on top of the price. That is theirs to pay, not yours, and it does not come off your money.

Example only

A worked example. A bracelet sells for £400. We keep £80. You receive £320.

How selling gold, silver or jewellery with us works

  1. Send photos. Email, WhatsApp or post a few clear pictures: front, back, any hallmark or mark. Tell us your town.
  2. We reply with an honest opinion. What we think it could make, whether it is worth selling, or whether it is not worth the trip. You do not pay for this and you are not committed.
  3. Items come to us. Depending on what you have and where you live, we may collect, or you can bring it to us in Swansea by appointment. We agree the details with you.
  4. We catalogue it, photograph it and sell it at online auction through Easy Live Auction and Bidspirit. You get a statement within 7 days of the sale ending and your money within 14. A sale is held roughly every ten days. Items go into the first sale with room, which is not always the next one. Ask us for the current wait.

Selling jewellery or medals from a house clearance or an estate

If you are dealing with a relative's belongings, there is no rush to decide anything today. Send a few photos of what you are unsure about and we will say what we think. If there is a houseful, tell us and we will talk about coming to look.

We can sell the valuable pieces and tell you honestly about the rest. We do not push you to send everything, and we do not ask you to commit to anything before you have read the agreement. We send you our Vendor Consignment Agreement first.

An informal opinion from photos is not a written valuation for probate, insurance or inheritance tax. If you need one of those, say so when you write.

Questions people ask before selling gold, silver or jewellery

Do you buy gold, or sell it for me?

We sell it for you. Your gold goes into an online auction, bidders set the price, and we charge 20% of the sold price, VAT included, with nothing to pay on anything that does not sell. You are paid by bank transfer within 14 days of the sale ending.

Where can I sell gold jewellery near Swansea, Llanelli or Neath?

We are in Fforestfach, Swansea, just off Junction 47 of the M4. Email or WhatsApp a few pictures first. We will tell you whether we collect, or whether it is easier to bring items to us by appointment.

Can I sell gold in Pontypridd, Bridgend or Cardiff, or do I have to come to Swansea?

Send photos from wherever you live. From those we tell you whether we will collect, whether it is easier to bring it to Swansea, or, honestly, whether it is not worth the journey. There is no set distance. We decide case by case.

Can I sell broken, scrap or old gold?

You can send it. We will tell you if it is worth selling. Auction prices for plain gold are usually close to the value of the metal, and our 20% comes off that. A piece with a maker's name, a date, a design that stands out or a story tends to do better. Send a photo of the item and any hallmark and we will say.

Can I sell sovereigns, gold coins and old coins?

Yes. A standard bullion sovereign is priced close to the gold price. Rarer dates, proof coins and collections kept together can make more. Photograph both sides of the coins, or the whole album open.

Can I sell silver plate and silver-plated items?

Yes, but plate is silver only in the thin coating. EPNS and A1 pieces have little value whatever they weigh. A named maker or an unusual piece can still sell. Solid sterling silver carries the hallmark and sells on weight and on quality. Photograph the underside.

Can I sell medals and militaria?

Yes. Campaign and gallantry medals, groups, ribbon bars, cap badges and uniforms. A medal with its name and its original ribbon is worth more. Photograph the edge, where it is engraved, and any paperwork that came with it.

What does it cost?

20% of the sold price on each item that sells, and that 20% includes VAT. There is nothing else to pay, and nothing at all for anything that does not sell. The buyer pays their own premium separately.

How long does it take to get paid?

You get a statement within 7 days of the sale ending and your money by bank transfer within 14 days of the sale ending, provided the buyer has paid us. Before that, there is a wait to get into a sale. Ask us for the current wait when you send your photos.

What happens if my item doesn't sell?

It costs you nothing. We tell you after the sale, and you choose: put it in a later sale, collect it, or ask us to give it to charity or dispose of it. Tell us within 14 days, or we may re-offer it with no reserve in the next suitable sale.

Is the valuation really free, and is it a proper valuation?

Sending photos and getting our opinion costs nothing. It is an informal opinion, a guide to what we think an item could make, not a written valuation. If you need a written valuation for probate, insurance or inheritance tax, tell us and we will say what we can offer.

Are my things safe with you?

Your items are stored at our premises in Fforestfach and are insured under Homefront Auctions' business policy against loss or damage while in our care, custody and control. The terms are set out in the Vendor Consignment Agreement, which we send you to read before you commit.

Send photos and find out what we think

A few clear pictures are enough: the front, the back, and any hallmark or mark. Tell us your town and we will reply.
